"Kulning is an ancient vocal technique used by women in Scandinavia to call the cows home from summer pastures, but
also to send messages to one another over great distances. This vocal technique has fascinated Karolina Erlingsson
who has created a new sound piece for the biennial that conjures up a preindustrial era in the hills around Hisingen
and the river Göta älv. This time, the kulning takes on a different meaning than in those days, which emulates the
presence, echo and disappearance of voices that attempt to communicate with each other."
